The Maiden Plato brought out a field of seven. Contour was made a solid favourite, wo» v *~*afortabLe at finish.. Kelso.
and San Lass'took tho lead early, but^t ho latter was dono with at tho straight. First Mato began badly, but finished resolutely, and was going as well as: anything in tho last furlong, llippolytus and Tcotano both burst blood-vessels during the race!
Land o' Nod and Cloudy Morn were withdrawn from tho Hurdles, l'apatawa was loading at the first hurdle, and with Royal 131uo carried on tho running for tho first six furlongs. Mount Cook was in front just beforo a milo had been covered, but alter that Playmate and Concussion went out on their own. Playmato jumped very well tho wholo way, and showed a lot of pace. Tho
Vouchor and To Kainui ; wero never prominent.
Tho Whariti Hack brought out six starters. Robin Link raced with iVlorrio Zoaland for half the distance, and was then beaten. Fulminator, Seaton Dalo, and Poarlio raced towards Morrio Zealand at tho bottom of tho straight, but Seaton Dale was tho only one t-o reach tho leader. Tho finish was an interesting ono, both horses finishing right on tho outside. Pearlie, who was tho _ actual favourite, .was slow to move, but finished ivoll. Fulrriinator was fourth.
Grand Slam, who has gone amiss, Uhlando, • Roseal, and Sandix were withdrawn from the Cup race. Kurawaka was mado favourite, but ho never flattered his backers at any stage, llosegrovo was last tho whole way. Waipaku went to tho front a3 usual, but Aberration kept with her for moro than half the journey, and though the Conqueror mare was clcar of everything at tho bottom of the straight she could not finish with Loiret. King's Lynn was in the ruck when tho straight was reached, but lie put in a very fast run and just headed Waipaku on the post. Nova ran badly after the first fivo furlongs. Eaironia looked to bo going, well a quarter of a mile from homo, but he closed up in tho straight. Hipporofla was never prominent. Twelve starters went to the post for tho County, Hack. Hydraulic kicked his rider (W. tl. M'Kay) as ho was .mounting,_and H. Kirk had to take the mount. M'Kay was not seriously injured, however. Tho start W33 a good one, but Rangipapa and Bluo Bell soon went to tho front, and were a couplo of lengths in front, tho whole. way. Locniela came with a lato rim and secured third money. Hydraulic was tho last to linislj. Yosami and Ikon, were next to tho placed horses. Tho rest of tho field 'were strung out to a great length. Tho President's Handicap was'' a good thing for Gauzo, who. quickly established a lead of a couplo of lengths, and maintained it till tho finish. Rangihaota was second till the straight, where Ballarat passed him; Tho Gold Reef maro. finished under her heavy . impost, , and lasted. long enough to beat Probability for second place. The latter .had a bad position! from the start, .but-put in a fast gallop in 1 tho last , furlong.' Silver Shell, Elfrida, arid Scotch Reel never showed up. ' Pearlio was the only .defection from' tho :Victoria Hack Handicap. Scenery was made favourite,, but was slow to find, her feet. She moved 'up going down tho back stretch, but was not able to keep th-o pace g;oing in tho straight. Ancyle was racing sccond for tho first two furlongs, and; then dropped back. Ho camo again in tho straight,'and managed to beat Diplomatic for sccond placo. Clara'bcllo and Nitchevo wcro tho last of tho field.
A field of seven contested tho Telephone Handicap., 'Cyreno and Chicane began' together, < and sot a great pace for four fur'longs, but then tired. Oxton was' winning easily a hundred yards from the post, but Wilson brought Sunbonnet,along smartly and caught Jones napping. The latter made a groat effort to got going again in time, but was too late. I Supplement,, who is now run-, ning in tho nanio of Mr. S. E.
