' _ ■>— I. The annual picnic of the emplovces of tho Wellington Gas Company was lield'at the Upper Uutt yesterday, and was a great success about .150 people being present. An enciyctic Sports. Committee, with Mr. I-'. W. Dred"'c as secretary, organised an .attractive programme of events, which was successfully carried out The Championship Cup was 'won l>v II" Wangli, 8 points, followed ,] )v Fniiiknor' i points, with J. Mann third, with fi points. ' The. results of the principal events were 'is follow:— 130 '.Yards—Faulkuor, 1; Waugli, 2- Wel,lm\ ' Waugli, 2; Faulknor,"3. 100 lards (open).--bymthe, 1; Young; •>, Married Women's ltaec.—Mrs. J. Smith" 1 • Mrs. Taylor, 2. . l ' Single Women's Race.—Miss Aitkens 1Miss. Hamilton, 2. ' ' The tug-o'-war proved to bo tho most exciting event of the day. There were six' teams, representing respectively tho stokers drivers, fitters, yard hands, service depart- > nient, and otlicc and showrooms staff. The evont. was eventually won by the litters' team by two pulls. Tho competition was won on the previous occasion by the service department, which came second this yeat
