♦ — THE RECORD OF 1807. OVER SEVEN AND A HALF MILLIONS. More than £7,500,000 was contributed in Great Britain for charitable purposes. Eight hundred and oighty-livo institutions gave returns to L'ho "Classified Directory of tho Metropolitan Charities," edited by Mr. TV. IT. Howe, and their total incomes amounted .to £7,529,977; tho total for 1906 was £7,533,252, distributed among 916 institu-, tions. Last year's Teturns thus show that thoro were fewer charitable agencies at work than tho previous year, but that individually they received greater support. During the past two years the record sum of ten and a half million pounds has beon bequeathed for charitable purposes.
