Wilson (Chairman)',;. G; Kendall, R. B. M'Kcmzie, J. H. Daltoii; Barber, Henson, and Masters. . •Letters;•were; received from tho Treasury stating that'the loan of £100 was available for expenditure on protection works at the Rangitikei..river; from the district road engineer approving of plans and specifications for expenditure of tho Government grant on the Foxton-Palmerston.road; from the Valuation Department, enclosing an account for £40 for valuing two ridings, Awahou and ltongot-ea; from Horowhenua County Council asking whatf-steps were being taken to repair the "Whirokino bridge, and whether tho Manawatu County Council is prepared to pay its proportion of the cost of tho Shannon bridgonom the. Wangariui Education Board askin« the Council to be represented on the Feilding Technical -' School . Committee. Councillor Masters ■.was Appointed.,) -. <a ■ Tho secretary of the Rivers Conference also wrote inviting the Council to ,be represented at the meeting on Thursday , next 1 ; ' ' The Chairman suggested that the Council should consider'tho advisability of withdrawing from the conference. Councillor M'Kenzie, who represented tho Council at : tli6' conference, pointed out that the area affected.'covored 2200 square' miles; including twelve counties and six boroughs! At least' one-eighth of this was affected by floods or wash-outs on-the rivers. Roughly the. land was valued at £2,640,000, and it was therefore of great importance. Ho did not think ;t\ie question should be allowed to drop. After:further discussion the Chairman was appointed to represent: the Council at tho Committee'.'meeting. . . ■Tho overseer ■'. reported on the- various ridings.: The 35 feet, rolled steel girder bridge on tho Foilding-Awahuri Road was just about-completed, and the-!traffic 'had' been : goiiig across for a week. This completed a long list of bridge work, and heavy expenditure • which had ' been" going on: in this riding for several'years, and which was not likely to occur again for a considerable time, as-several of tho bridges had been rebuilt, and'-' others repaired during the last four or fivo . years. Mr. H. Corduo had completed his contract for constructing a drain at the Kaikokopu Lakes in a satisfactory manner. A good deal of work had been done on tho Foxtoh-Shannon Road, in. tho shapo of filling, in rnts and clearing out drains. • Mr. H; D. Robinson was appointed Registrar of,' for the Council. The fee to be charged.'is 2s. 6d. for sheep and cattlo dogs, and ss. for all other dons.
