At about five o'clock this morning. her' husband loft .to go to: his "work, when the deceased seemed in her ordinary; stato of health/ A little niore than an hour later her son was passing along ;one ,of the passages when he mado tho awful discovery of the body of his mother hanging by a rope attached to a beam oyer the door. From 'the position of the - body it would appear that the Unfortunate woman,: after-fixing the' rope round her neck, had sunk on her knees and thuii strangled herself. . Some four months ago the deceased had a bad attack of . influenza, and since then 'had had. ' quent periods of\deprcssion; !;.
Auckland, January 23. •. The captain' of the: Eippingham Grango, which arrived to-night direct from Liverpool and Capetown, reports that during the ! voyage a - steerage passenger named William Monk, aged 22, who had been suffering from consumption, committed suicide by shooting himself. ■. • " .■ . ... ;■ •
