Tlio following resolution was passed at thci executive ! meeting- of tho Otago Employers' Association this afternoon: "That as some! of tlii! inspectors of factories are interpret- i ing Section 1-1 of the Factories Act Amend-' me.nt Act, 1007, as constituting a weekly employment, "and as such a construction, if given effect to, would have a very serious olfeqt upon the manufacturing'industries of' the Dominion, the executive of tho Otago ! Employers' Association is of opinion that . the first ease brought under this section': should ho treated as a test case, and taken • up by: tho'Now"Zc"alaii(l Employers' Federation and contested along tho lines of the following judgments (which laid it down .that a full week must lie,worked before a worker is entitled to a lull week's pay) Lindsay v. Mollison and Co. (Book of Awards, Vol. V, page 2SO), Inspector of Factories v. Wliitcombe and Tombs ("Labour Journal," September, 1907, page 1142), and Auckland Tailors v. B. G. M. Kemp (" Labour Journal,". Decomber, 1907, page 1574); mid further, tliiit in the meantime, all wages with the exception of apprentices are paid according to tlio custom prevailing previous to tho passing of tho Amendment Act."
