To-day's Observer " states that it hears on oxcellent authority that tho Labour party have communicated with the Hon. P. Reeves, tho High Commissioner, asking him to return to New Zealand and take the leadership of tho party, and that Mr. Reeves is likely to accede' to tho invitation. Tho s?.mo authority states that a story is current' that if Mr. R. M. Houston,' M.P., contests the Bay of Islands' seat at tho coming election it will bo as an opponent of tho Government. Reforring to tho High Commissionorship, Sir Joseph Ward told an Ashburton reporter the other day that tho term of Mr. Reoves's appointment oxpired on Juno 10. Ho detclined to seriously consider or discuss suggested changes in'tho administration of tho High Commissioner's office, or the futuro tenure of appointment, at present.
