SUMMER FEED.
TRUDENGE THAT PAYS. , , Much has been, said—and well said—regarding the wisdom of providing feed for tho col J weather of winter, and early spring,'but there are times when provision for the parching months of summer is equally wise. Our Manawatu representative has' been talking to a farmer who holds this view very strongly, and acts on it. Ho regards it ivs an act of'good business to provide a surplus of green feed for _tbo'summer months, especially" if a farmer-is-ongaged in dairying pursuits. _ His cxpcrienco makes a striking contrast just now, to .that of those of. his neighbours, who are .short of feed, and consequently short of milk. " I had thirty acres of hay," said the farmer,, "which I cut early, arid- still kept closed until . last week. My cattlo aro now. > on nieo green pasture. I had a crop of oats which turned out a failure, but if the weather continues dry I have grec-11' feed enough to lasi mo through tho season." " Has your milk' fallen . off ?" '• asked our representative.-' ( "?sot a single pound," replied .tho farmer. And, . further, ,mv .test.'lias improved.. I, have not been long in the dairying, . but I consider I have learned a secret which I . shall follow out in future years."
