Pour first offenders, .including a young woman, were convicted arid' discharged; -A' fot ioifender, who did not appear, was'con--Vvictcd and fined 10s., tho. amount of his bail. , 'i.Thomas Milligan, who had been convicted . of this offence twice previously, pleaded not ■' -gnilty. Constablo Murphy deposed that he found accused lying drunk on a footbath. A ~ fino of 205., in default seven clays' lmprisonment, was imposed. •On tho application of the police, a pro-, hibition order was issued against a middleagod man named' John Miller, at present residing in Nairn Street. SHOP-LIFTING. ■ .Thomas Walterliug, a young man, pleaded riot "guilty to charges of having stolen eight pairs of rug-straps, valued at 165., tho property of H. Fielder and Co.,;and ten shirts, valued' at 355., tho property of Georgo and Gcorgo. ~ ".. Evidence in support, of the : charges-was given' by Sergeant Dale, B. Doherty (H. Fielder and Co.), E. He was a fireman on board a steamer, but hid not -Veen- working;for about a 'week.-. Robert Bugby admitted having obstructed Constablo M'Leod in tho ■ execution of ■ his duty on tho Queen's Wharf, and having unlawfully assaulted Walter Usma., ■ • Sub-lnspcctor O'Donovon informed tho .Court that, whilst the constablo was 'arrest--ing a. man belouging to the Athenic for drunkenness, accused, who also belonged to tho'.vbssoL obstructed him in every possiblo ■ mariner. Usma, who came to tho assistance of tho coristablej was struck violently soveral -, times; by tho accused. _ - A Sentence-of ono month's imprisonment, with hard labour, on each charge was imposed,'the sentences to bo concurrent. " ! • 'y ' " THEFT OF TOOLS. : .George Meredith .Griffiths, a married man residing at Brooklyn, pleaded guilty to charges of various thefts of carpenter's tools at different dates from tho following persons: —Emanuel Heriderickson (value of goods £2 i lis.):' Walter-Robb (£2 12s. 3d.); Joseph' Tillyard (£1 18s. 9d.); John Christen&n (£1 ,Bs.' 6d.); Thomas Horning (lis.); Herbert Boddy (75.); and Harold M'Kenzio (£1 145.). Tho Sub-Inspector stated that the accused ■ was fined 40s. .tho previous day for stealing a wicker chair from tho verandah'of a neighbour's house.
