Owing to many men icing absent holidaymaking, only one shift is employed at tho Dcnniston, but work is steadily on the eight hours bank-to-bank principle (the system insisted upon by tho men), and tho output is well maintained. The management have apparently reconsidered the question of closing the mine unless-the award is.obeyed. Matters will probably remain- in their present state until proceedings are taken for breach of award (probably by the Labour Department), or the Union gets its' case into tho higher court Auckland, December 24. 51 r.' Eosser,' Secretary of the Trades and Labour Council, has received the following telegram •.—"Dcnniston Union is appealing against Judge Sim's decision, re bank-to-bank clause, and expect ii great fight. Kindly inform unions in your district.—(Signed) .1. Marcliant, Secretary;" The telegram in regarded as an appeal for financial support.
