Tho weather was fine, and it was much cooler for tho continuation of the cricket match between the Englishmen and a Victorian eleven. With seven wickets down for 321, the Englishmen carried their score to 503, thanks chiefly to a century by Rhodes, aided by Fielder. These two batsmen were still going when the Englishmen closed their innings nt 503, with one wieket to fall. The batting of .tho home team showed that they had tho liugo total of their opponents in mind. They all played on the enreful side, and three wickets foil for 156. Rhodes was bowling in excellent form. Shortly after ■ play' began Rhodes had a narrow escape of boing caught bohind the wiokots. He played a great innings, his score including a sixer and ten fourors. With Fioldor as partner 67 was put on in twonty-two minutes.
