Tho reception given by the Commodoro of tho Club, Ur. and Mrs. Fell, to the members of tho Port Nicholson Yacht Club and their friends on Saturday afternoon at Mahina Bay was very enjoyable. It was a perfect day for a trip across the harbour, tho light breezo'that was blowing being refreshing, but not, like most "Wellington breezes, distressing as well. Most of the passengers wero eager for the fun of being landed from tho Duod in small boats, and in spite "of the fact that thoso boats tossed up and down in a watery way, it was rather a,' disappointment when thoso who knew decided that it was bettor toigo on to Day's Bay, and walk back to Mahina Bay. However, the walk with tho favouring brcozo was delightful, and there was ;a cool, green-shaded veranda, and afternoon'' tea awaiting tho visitors' arrival. Tho members of tho Club were there in forco, looking' very natty in their nautical uniform, and to tho always beautiful view of the harbour to be obtained from tho hill on which the houso stands, was added the pretty sight of a bay full of yachts,- somo of them lavishly hung .with .flags.. :■ This proved so .charming that most of the guests remained there all the afternoon, chatting and listening to tho strains of a band, though some explored tho garden , and grounds behind. A number of ladies were present, among them being Lady Stout, Mesdames G. Fell, Dymock, Fitchett, -Burnott, Hursthouse, and Misses Richmond (3), Baber, England, Fitzgerald, Ivey, Roy, Farquhar, Gibson, and Miles.
A number of ladies were present at the Athletic Asoeiation mooting at the. Basin Reserves on Saturady afternoon,. and the grand stand and terrace wero Ray with their pretty frocks and hats. The al fresco afternoon tea provided by the Committee was much appreciated, albeit in somo cases the serving of it was rathor as'tho chairs and'tables placed on the sloping side of the terrace appeared sometimes to be in danger of tipping over tho tea and teadrinkers. -Fortunately no accidents are reported.
