It is stated that Woodvillo residents intend to ask the Government to clear the slips.on the Gorge road, and put the same in a state of repair. The road is impassable at prosent. . l • Annie A. Simms was arrested at Palraers- ■ ton ycfsterday morning for a breach of the Licensing Aot at Auckland. Mr. Fyl'e, aged 71, an old resident of J. almorston, died suddenly on Tuesday evening. Deceased had been ailing for' Bonus time. A large and representative gathering attended the annual convention of the Maiiawatu and Bangitikei Endeavour Union.. 1

Some concern has been caused by the statement of a Government official that in several instances there has occurred a corrosion of thii water service pipes witlua growth or adhesion of sihca. The result is that the supply ot water is materially decreased. Thisis a ' serious matter, when one remembers the drv weather, with its attendant fire dangers, and a water supply which is almost at its last gasp owing to the inroads mado upon it by' residents generally, all of whom desire their gardens to look as bright and fresh as possible. A well-known and esteemed resident, in the person of Mrs. Alexander Robinson, died yes- ; terday, after a lingering illness, aged littyfour years. Mrs. Eobinsort was born in Cork, Ireland, and had resided in New Zealand for the past twenty-four yeixs, twenty years'of' which had been spent in Mastarton.' The Her. Iwiora, Native minister here,who recently .lost his wife,' arrived, from Patea last evening with a following of about 50 Maoris. Ho was met and greeted in .the usual Native, custom'..by some ISO Maoris, after which the usual speechifying took place.followed by a tahgi.
