AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
The Amateur Athletic Association of New ealand have selected AVellington as the locality in which the New Zealand championship contests of 1908 will be decided. The local centre ■ intond making every effort to retain the championship shield, won at the last contest in Christcnurch, and with this end m view, an athletic meeting has been arranged to take place on the Basin Reserve on Saturday. A series of handicap events which, will include the whole of tho charoplonship contest will bo decided. The bulk of the champion team aro included in the numerous entries received, and some exciting sport should be witnessed. A feature of tho gathering will bo tho walking in handicap evonts of Mr. H. Kerr, holder of the one mile Australasian record. Should tho conditions provo favourabjo, Kerr may attompt to lowor the two mile record Hogben and Leslie will aot as' walking judges, and much interest is cvincod in Kerr's performances.
