The attendance was fairly good. At thß._commoiiccmen.fc of the meeting considerable" discussion took place with regard to the new legislation in connection with boxing contests, and considerable dissatisfaction was expressed. .It was-flecided, however, to hold an amateur tournament for thrco classes on the evening of .Friday, 27th inst., providing tho necessary- p'erniisswn of tho authorities could;bo obtained, jt being pointed out that a,largo number of visitors who would be present in,Palnierstou that week would attend. Tommy Burns, heavyweight champion of the.w.orld, "let "Gunner" Moir at the Na-tionnl-Sporting- Club, London, on November 27, in a boxing mutch for the championship and a purse. There wore about 1000 spectators, anil Burns was favourite in the hotting. Moir was outclassed, and seemed norv'ous'.;from'.', the'"outset. Tlio visiting champion toyed with him until half way through the "tenth-'round, knocking him down twice. At the finish Moir was badly used up, but Burns "had not turned a hair."
