The Right Kev. George' Howard Willanson, Bishop ot St. Andrew's,, Dunkeld, and Dunblane, was tho son of Mr: George Wilkinson, Durham. Ho was born in 1833, and wad edu-. cated at.Durham.School and at Oriel College, Oxford, of which society ho was a scholar. Ho grnduated 8.A., taking a necoiid class in tho final classical school, in 1855. He proceeded AT.A. in 1859, and received tho decree of D.D. by diploma in 18S3. He was ordained deacon in 1857, and priest in 1858. He wnscurato of Kensington from 1857 to 1859; incumbent of Seaham Harbour from 1859 to 1863; incumbent of St. Andrew, Auckland, Durham, froni'lSG!) to 18G7; incumbent of St. Peter, Great Windmill Street, Wostminster, from 18G7 to 1870; vicar of St. Peter, Eaton Square, from 1870 to 188.');, honorary fcoiibn of St. Petroc in Truro Cathedral • from 1878 to 18S3; select preacher at "Oxford-from 1879 to 1881; proctor iu'cotivocatioti for the diocese uf London from ISBO to 18S3< .He was consecrated Lord Bishop of Truro in St. Paul's Cnthedral on April 25, 1883, over which See ho, presided till 1891, when ho resigned, owing to 'continued ill-health. A period of rest restored him, and ho was elected Lord Bishop of St. Andrew's, Dunkeid, and Dunblane, on February 9, 1893.. Ho was tho author of a number of theological anil devotional works, some of which have been circulated in thousands, and made Bishop 'Wilkinson the spiritual guide of many who had novor seen himOr experienced the power of his preaching. As a Loudon clergyman he won the personal devotion of his congregation in a remarkable degree by tho*- sheer fervour and eloquence ; of his proaching and tho nobility\of-his character. Though not an extreme partisan, Bishop Wilkinson'belonged to the High Church school of thought in the Church.
