EFFECTS ON THE EXTENSION BUILDING.

MODIFICATIONS PROBABLE.' The plans of the addition to the Parliamentary Buildings at 'present in course of construction on the Syuncy Street side aro likely,, to . be' modified considerably as the result' of tho fire. This is lo.be a vary substantial, fire-proof/ stone and brick building, but it was designed with tho idea that tho Legislative Council Chamber and offices and Chamber of the llouso of' Representatives were likely to last for many years to como, and its position and character were largely determined by their proximity. Owing to shortago of space, tho addition waa being constructed so that it should como very far forward on to Sydney Street. Now it is probable that the now main building will be brought further forward towards this street, and the addition sot back and brought into line with tho new main frontage. The design of the new portion may also require alteration, to bring it into harmony with the futuro main building., The fire will mean vory little loss in connection with tho extension contract, because tho foundations that aro 'finished will practically all bo ' used, oxcopt tho front wall.
