FALL IN FLOUR.
3 _i 3 A DROP OF 30s. PER TON. t Tho welcomo news was received yesterday 1 to- the effect that tho Flour Millers' Assof ciation had decided to reduco tho price of - flour by 30s. per ton—thus mnkinig the j price £11 f.o.b. in the South. This is very cheering indeed, as it must induce a 3 reduction in'» tho price of bread, which for 7 some timo has been selling at 4d. the 2-lb. J loaf. BREAD STILL UP. 1 A mooting of tho Wellington Master " Bakers' Association was held in tho offico of tho Secretary (Mr. 11. F. Allen) last ' evening, when a long discussion took placo , on matters affecting the trade, and in parj ticular tho price of broad. It seems that many of tho Wellington bakers have rcJ cently received, or have on order, large J supplies of flour bought at tho higher prico, . £12 10s., aud, tluit being so, they would be seriously affected if it was decided to drop ' the 'price of bread at' once, particularly in 3 view of the unsettled state of the market, f Tho difficulty position, too, is increased by the high prices ruling for hoFsefodder, which is likely to increase rather [ than' fall. Under these circumstances it was resolved to endeavour to ascertain as , far as possible if tho market price of flour J (£11) is likely to be maintained before deciding to reduce the price of bread, as it ' would not be expedient to make a temporary reduction, ndiich would be the ease were flour to advance again. The result, of tho inquiries to be made will be reported at a meeting to be held on Tuesday next. The i annual conference of the New Zealand Master Bakers' Federation is to be held at New Plymouth towards the end of Febru- .' ary. The Secretary (Mr. Ailed)-' reported that. so far ho had received no remits for tlyit conference. , The mooting decided tljat tho matter of remits from the Wellington Association would be gone into at next Tuesday's "meeting.
