DAIRY INSPECTION.
■ A FORMER EXPERIMENT. : Iu connection with the forthcoming Gov- ' ornmmit inspection of cowyards and dairies, ' writes out, Wairarapa correspondent, it is [ interesting to note that something of tho r kind was attempted some years ago by tho . Dalofield Dairy Company. It was thought ' that Some , system of inspection would tend 1 to the' delivery of milk in almost perfect ' condition, and the inspectors' duties wero " undertaken by the stock officers. Tho | scheme was _ begun all right. Every farm in the district was visited, and sugl gestions made by the inspector were, in ' many instances, carried out- by tho dairyj men. There were instances, however, ■ where tho practical farmer know more about . the business than tho inspector himself, j and this tended to lower tho status of the authority. However, there was no doubt that the inspection all round did good, but it fell into disuse possibly because it was not backed up by an Act of Parliament. Several Wairarapa dairymen have stated that, in addition to the inspection of cow yards arid dairies, there should be periodical inspection of dairy herds by competent inspectors, thus corroborating various recommendations made on tho same subject at different times by Mr. J. A. Gilrutb, chiei Governmont Veterinarian.
