At tho Police Court' to-day John Kerr, labouror, was charged' with having assaiiitod and beaton a tram conductor,.and with obstructing tho conductor iu l tho execution of : his duty, contrary to the provisions of: tho Tramway Act, 1894. Counsel for tho prosecution stated that defendant placed his: left arm across tho doorway' 'tlio car; and refused to mako way for' passengers. When spoken to by tho conductor lie usod'offensivo language, and subsequently' l assaulted the official. Defendant denied' tho charges,! but udmittod calling tho conductor a mongrel. He was fined 20s. for ; obstruction andlCOs. for assault, with costs £4 ss. ■
