It is officially announced that the follow--ing naval appointments will take cffcct from. March: — Admiral Sir A. D. Fanshawe, Commander-in-Chief at Portsmouth. Rear-Admiral Sir H. H. Lambton, Conimantier-in-Chief of the China station. Vice-Acimiral Sir W. H. FawUes, to command at Devonport. Rear-Admiral Richard Poore, Commander-in-Chief of the Australian station. Rear-Ad mi nil Sir Richard Poore, born in 1853, is the fourth Baronet, and succeeded : n 1893. Ho served with tiio Naval Brigade in the Perak expedition, 1575-76, winning honours and promotion. Ho was a lieutenant on the Invincible at the bombardment of Alexandria in 1882, and in the samo year was with the Naval Brigade in the Egyptian war. lie was in tiio Nile Expedition of 1884-85, which, arrived at Khartum too late to relieve General Gordon, and again won promotion. In 1901-05 he was ltoar-Admiral of the Channel Fleet. Admiral Sir Arthur D. Fanshawe v;as Com-mandor-in-Chief of the Australian station, from 1902 to 1905, prior to Fawkes. In 18991900 ho was second in command of tho Channel Squadron. ltoar-Admiral Sir Hedwortli Lambton, tliir/1 son of trie second Earl of Durham, commanded tho Naval Brigade in Ladysiuith, South Afrur.i, during the historic siege by tho Boers, wWsn tho nuval guns saved tho defenders. Ho I ias■: seen much Egyptian service, and in 100/f -00 commanded the cruiser squadron of tho A'&jditerranean Fleet. Vice-Admiral Stt W. n. Fawkes lias locon Commander-in-Chief, of tho Australian stettion. sinco 1905, and has held a number cti important posts. A Press Association tolegram received from Auckland last night states: " Fawkes intimated this evening that RearAdmiral Sir Hichard I'-joro has now Jac«n appointed to succeed Mm in commantV of tho,: Australian squadron, in place of l(eaJ|-Admiral. Barry, as previously arranged."
