TOO FAST.

.SPEED OF MOTOR-CARS. A fow days ago wo had occasion, to call attention to tho*excessive speed at wliicli motor-cars * are driven through the streets of Wellington, _ but there has been no attempt on the part of any authority to check tho oyil, which, it ' seems, will not bo remedied until somebody h killed. Chaffeurs, in a great many instances, a tako no heed of street intersections when " whirling along Manners Street or Courtcnny 0 Placo; yet it is obvious that a horse and cart fc or a cyclist may dash out and take part in 1 a serious collision at any moment. Talking t of cyclists is reminiscent of a peculiar accident , that occurred to a foolish motor-cyclist a few s ovonings ago. He was tearing along a Thorndon street in quito a reckless manner on his machino when a gentleman was taking his : horse into a stable. Tho cart was at right ] angles, to the streot, when tho man in charge caught sight of tho motorist, who was making j straight for the trap, and as ho sang out a ,• warning as the horse was about to cross the b footpath, tho motorist swerved a littlo, but 1 too late; his machino struck tho wheel, and " threw: the rider, and in alarm the spirited D horse backed so much that its forefeet went t. through one wheel of the. cycle, while the hind 2 feet, were engaged in smashing tho spokes of ; the other wheel. Meanwhile the machino kept i> up its clatter, and. the frightenec] horse backed f, .until tho trap ;bi(tted into a verandah,- post, 3. which saved tho cart going through the pinto--3 glass show window of a shop. With Some difiil culty tho machine was extricated from tho , destroying hoofs, and the incident ended. The j accident could'have been overtoil by a' little care on tho part of tho motor-cyclist.
