Dec. 5, 10.45 p.m.) Durban, December 5. It is stated that the Government has ovidonco that a series of murders of loyal natives has recently been committed. The evidenco shows that the object of tho murders was to force all the natives into ono camp; then it was intonded to give a signal for a general rising. Tho Government's action took the conspirators by surprise, and saved the lives of other loyalists, including the chief Sebindi, whom tho Government is specially protecting, owing to his fidelity at a critical period in 1906. Tho Natal "Advertiser's" correspondent at Eshowe states that Dinizulu lias repeatedly offered to go to Pietermaritzburg whenever he is required to do so. Ho is ill, suffering from swollon legs. Mr. Saundors, Commissioner of Zululand, conferred with Colonel Mackenzie, and accompanied a portion of tho troops to the front. Dinizulu has telegraphed to the Government expressing surpriso at the military preparations, and adding: " Why, if It is thought that I am In the wrong, am I not tried, and, if guilty, punished?" The tolegram is considered to bo tho result of tho presence of 200 polico, who are watching Usutu until the main force arrives. The Government has acknowledged the mossago, bnt has not modified its plans. : Colonel Mackenzie has absolute power and discretion to act with a view to ending- an intolerable situation. MARTIAL LAW. □urban, December 4. A son of tho celebrated chief John Dunn states that the rebels at Nkandhla aro few, while thore is no restlossnoss among those on the Black Umvolosi River. Tho chief Diniznlu is at Usuma. A Natal mounted forco, with four guns, is at Ginginhlovo, to which point Colonel Sir Duncan Mackenzie advances to-day. Martial law has boon proclaimed in Zululaud.
