_fr . THE PROPOSED VETERINARY SCHOOL: (BY TELEGRAM —rRESS ASSOCIATION.) Dunedin, December' 2. At a meeting of the ■University Council to-day a statement showing the list of benefactions received from private sources since 1903 was presonted. This showed that subscriptions and bequests amounted to £30,620, one item of which, the ".livening Star's" collection of public subscriptions for the extinction of the floating doot, carnal a subsidy of £1650 from the Government. The lato Mr. Bevcrley's bequest is estimated to be worth £15,'100. The question of a proposed veterinary school came up for discussion, ,i letter being received from Mr. Clifton, Chief Inspector of Stock, asking when the school would ho 'established. Air. James Alien (vice-chancellor) said during the recent session he'and Mr. Sidey had a number of interviews with the Hon. It. M'lNab on the subject. After consultation with the Minister, they had como to th< conclusion that an abridged course of training suitable for stock ami dairy inspectors should bo tried. These negotiations were still going on. He had recommended to the .Minister that they should give a two years' course with a certificate in animal hygiene, and had asked the Minister to arrange that all inspectors under tho Agricultural Departmont shall ho drawn from students who had undergone such training. Mr. Allen was authorised to interview the .Minister on his present visit to ascertain .the intontions of tho Government. |
