.Saturday being man's day, tho most interesting social events wcro tlioso connected with sporting, when bright eyes beamed on bravo achievement; and valiant endeavour, though unsuccessful, met with its duo'meed of praise. There was a very interesting and protty gathering on Mr. Coatcs's lawn in Hobson Streot on Saturday morning, when t.'ie parents and friends of Miss Somerville's .boy pupils assembled to witness tho school .sports, which were to have taken place on Thursday, but had fortunately been postponed till a much pleasanter day. The boys aro well known to Wellington residents in their grey flannel school uniform, a costume so distinctive that "one of Miss Somerville's boys" can bo told at a glance, but on this occasion they woro white suits, and very smart and manly they looked.' A high verandah formed the grand stand, where most of the mothers watched tho progress of events,' the little sisters ranging themselves along the terrace on tho lawn. Among the onlookers were Mrs. Somerville, Lady Stout, Lady Ward, Mesdamos Hislop, Biss, Cohen, Goring Johnston, Harold, Johnston, Phipson, Moss, Clarkson, ' Nathan, Anderson, Stott, Hall, Abbott, Misses Duncan, Boaucliamp, Nathan, Dean, and Wheeler, Messrs. Coates, Johnston, Stbtt, Phipson, and Dr. Izard. 1 Mrs. David Nathan gave an afternoon tea at the old golf house, Miramar, on Saturday afternoon, when a scratch polo match was played. A large number' of guests wore present, many of whom had motored out from town. Tho .hostess wore a white muslin hand-embroidered frock, tho embroidery exquisitely worked by Mrs. Hardio. Lady Ward and Lady Mills, who niotorcd out, wore very smart motor coats. Mrs. W. Nathan wore a grey and white striped crystalline; Mjss Sybil Nath/in, white embroidored muslin; Miss Gladys Nathan, ' white muslin, with touches of pale blue, Mrs. C.' Peareo, white cloth costume; Mrs. Duncan, pretty black and white frock; Miss Duncan,' white muslin, with a black picture hat and gold waistbelt; Miss Williams, white frock, with blue picture hat, encircled by a long plume of the same shade, which drooped over the back; Mrs. Algar Williams, olive green costume; Miss Darley, 'grey coat and skirt; Miss Pearce, blue serge costume; Mrs. Tweed, black; Miss, Tweed, : 'cream sorgo; Mrs. Harold Johnston, white cloth costumo, with touches of black. Among tho other guests were Mesdames Butt and "Biss, and Miss Rose, Sir Joseph Ward, Sir James Mills, Dr. Findlay, Dr. Izard, Messrs. J. Duncan, C. J. Coates, and Holndon. Mrs. : David Nathan has taken Mrs. Arthur Pearce's house at ■ Lowry Bay, and is going over on Tuesday, there to stay for some time. Miss Darley, who arrived from Sydney' on Wednesday, is tho guest of Mrs. Arthur Pearce. ;* - p • In our report of the Girls' College .sports of last .week,, we omitted to say .that ,the championship was won by A.
