' Tho recommendations of the -Committee which , has .-.been- revising the„.City-.: By-laws were considered at '-Friday's ..meeting of the City Council, with tlio following results. "Tlio City Engineer has been instructed to redraft this clause 011 a basis suggested by him (7cwt. per . inch width of tyro for vehicles with springs, and Bcwt. per inch width of tyro for vehicles without springs, exclusive in each case of weight of vehicle) and to forward his report direct to the Council. Tho Committee recommend that the ; clause shall only apply to vehicles to bo built in the future or in ■ the : case of the. renewal of any pair of : wheels." Therecommendation was adopted. THE. BRICK AREA. Tlio' Committee recommended that tlio provision"by \y'hich buildings .erected,, add-/.'! to, 'or repaired within 100 feet bf the 'cliff overlooking Lambton ' Quay ' and .- Willis Street: should be' done.. 111 'brick, should bo altered so as to include buildings witliiu 30 foot of .the cliff in question. Tho amendment was 'agreed to. ' Tho Committee reeommeudod • that-' tho southern boundary of the brick .-area bo 100 loot south.-from lngestre Street, and Vivian Street, to Kent Terrace, thence 100. lec-t 011 both sides of Kent and ' CambridgeTerraces to the Basin Reserve,' and thonco, as already recommended, •' along Adelaide Road, Revans/.Street, and Rintoul Street. This was'.agreed to.,' BUILDING REGULATIONS. . The Committee 'recommended- that'Clair iris' 95 and: 80, iii' regard' -to* tho plans of buildings, bo adopted .as printed, a.s-they ,mcrjiy ombodied tho requirements of the,by-laws, at present,.in force. This was adopted. * Tho Council amended the by-law in regard to tho subdivision of buildings by -providing that, whore such subdivision was.carried out. for residential purposes, in a building intended to Ijo occupied by different persons, every wall constructed .for-that purpose must bo a party wall, built iir the maimer prescribotNfcr sliclr walls. A largo number of amendments of ; h purely .technical character were made in tho building by-laws 011 tlio recommendation of the City Engineer. THE ERECTION OF THEATRES/ ' 'Tho following'recommendation by the Cominittco- was adopted: — ".Every..-, theatre, opera house, or- other-building: intended to bo used - generally for theatrical or operatic purposes hereafter erected for tho aecomo'dation"of ■ more than 500 persons shall he built'to comply wit-lf tlio special provisions of this part of tlio byTlaw, and shall be erected of brick, stone, or concreto." Councillor Godber (chairman of tlio ByLaws Committee), who moved the different amendments, explained that the .'provision in' regard to theatres was not-intended to apply to schoolrooms •in.;whioh- } concerts -and-similar entertainment's Wero.lidld.'
