J. Campbell) and. Genera! Manager for Railways (MivT. Ronayne), and will meot in Auckland the Secretary to the General Post Office (Mr. 1. Robortson). Mr. David Jones, manager of Messrs. Ross and GlemliningV Wellington business, has returned to Wellington after a two months' holiday rest spent in Australia 'n ■ search of better health. Mr. Jones spent goilie weeks at tho Medlqw Hydro, and at Wentworth ■ Falls, and returns greatly benefited by the change of scene and air. Tho Hon. Dr. J. G. Findlay (Attorney-. Gonoral) gave a small i luncheon in honour of Sir-James Mills at his residence, Boulcott Terrace, on Saturday. There were present Sir Joseph Ward and other Ministers in town, His Worship tho Mayor (Hon T. W. Hislop), Messrs. James Coates, C. P. Skerrett, K.C., W. A. Kennedy (local manager " for tho Union, Company), A. Wilson, and D. M. Findlay. ; The luncheon was heaitily enjoyed by all present. ' Mr., J. M. Hall, who has, been fifteen years in .the employ of Messrs. Sargood, ■Soil, and Ewen, has severed his connection with that firm . to' .. become traveller , for Messrs. D. Benjamin and Co., on the Coast. To signify tjieir esteem of him, his late fellow r emplbyces have .presented. Mr. Hall' with a handsome tea and coffee, service and spirit kettle. He also received a cheque from the firm.^ At.the Wellington Bowliiig Club's pavilion on' Saturday afternoon Mr. Fred Galo (of the. staff of Messrs. Johnston and Co.) was presented by tho 1906-7 junior players with a handsome marble timepieco, to mark their esteem on the eve of his marriage. Captain J. O'Sullivan, who mado tho presentation, said that Mr. Gale was about to enter tor the pairs match on the matrimonial green, and in view of the many happy games they /had ihad together, they could not let the • occasion pass without -wishing, him all joy for tho future. After his health had been drunk, Mr. S. Brown proposed the health of tho future Mrs. Gale (Misg'Begg). Mr. / Gale responded suitably to both'toasts. The Hon. George Fowlds, -Minister for who is in Auckland, .will, on Tuesday evening, bo present at a social to bo given at Helensville to Mr. j. Stallworthy, M.H.R. for Kaipara. On Wednesday ho will lay tho foundation-stone of the Newton Girls' High School in Howo Street,.and on Friday next, he will open a Congregational church at Mangawai, near Maimgaturoto. On the following Monday (December 9) he will probably open the new infirmary at the Cogtley Home. On December 10 ho will leave for Wellington. The Minister had intended, if .possible, to pay a visit to t!io Waikato Sanatorium at Cambridgo, but time will probably not permit him to dp so on this occasion. ' A number of pending changes in tho Customs Department aro. announced. Mr. R. Carter, Collector at Christcliurch, is to iako up tho position of - Collector at Wellingon, vice Mr. D. who is retiring on pension at the ond of tho year. Mr. C. Colebrook, landing surveyor at Wellington, is to transfer to Tiriiaru, where he will take up the position of Collector in succession to Mr. Nixon, who is being transt ' ferred to Napier as Collector. Mr. Sibala, Collector at Napier, will tako up 'a similar position at Duncdin. Mr. W. Rose, of the .Wellington staff of landing waiters, will succeed Mr. Colebrook as landing surveyor at Wellington. /Mr. R. Walter and Mr. -1. Patrick, clerks in tho long-room at Wellington, aro being promoted to tho position ot Jnnding waiters at Wellington. Mr. E. G., Jones, cadet in the local office, is being transferred to Invcrcargill.
