DEFENCE RIFLE CLUBS' ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL REPORT. The.annual report of the Wellington Defence Rifle Clubs' Association, to be ■ presented 'to members at the annual meeting to-day, shows that the entries' for the Association's annual rifle meeting, hold iii January last,, were not up to expectations, barely 50 competitors being present. In view of the fact ■ that thy matches'wore open to volunteers, Permanent Foi.ce, .and. civilians, this is .regarded as disi; i uniting I'lie prize money amounted to £90. Five matches were lired, and. somo spleudid- shooting resulted, the weather conaitions being exceptionally favourable, in the lirst' match, Hred at i! 00, -500, and 600 yards, Rifleman Judd scored 96. points, winning Air. Grace's prize. In No. 'i match, at' 500 and' 700 yards, Captain Hobbs scored 62 ppints, ana in the third'match, at SUO and- 6UO yards, the samo shot scored 67 points.'. Rifleman Kitchen beaded the list in No. 4 match'(lo shots), at 600 yards, with a score 'of '48 points. In the .'fifth match, a long-range test' at .800, 900 and 1000. yards, Rifleman Burns scored 91 points.' In this match Private M'Lachlan, of the P: and T. Rifles, made the possible at 900 yards (other possibles during. tire meeting wero . made by , RiflemenVW. J. Welch, W. Judd,. and Captain Hobbs). Rifleman W. H. Ballinger, with a splendid aggregate, of 344 points, secured first place, carrying off, in addition to the prize money, the gold medal presented by Mr. W. 11. Field, M.H.R., patron of the Association. Riflemen Burns, Cameron, and Judd came next with a tied scoro of 340 points, their shoot-olf resulting in a win for Rifleman Burns, who was awarded Mr. W. H. Tisdall's prize. Rifloman W. Judd won the Silver' Cup presented by tho Licensed .Victuallers' Association, scoring 154 points for the first'two matches. Rifloman Burns, the previous winner, being .fifth with 148 points. The . cup becomes the property of the rifleman who wins it on two consecutive occasions.' Tho teams match, five men aside, was won by Karori No. 1 team by 7 pointstho Potono Riflo Club came second, and Cipaki third. Five teams competed; .The financial rosult of the meeting was a slight debit balance, but tho Karori, Pctonc, and Upper Hutt Rifle Clubs generously donated £2 each, with tho-'result that there-is now a credit balance of £1 ss. Bd. Tho thanks of the Association aro tendered to Messrs., W. H. Field, MET.II. (patron). W. A. Graco, W. J. Welch, W: E. Jackson, W. H. Ballingor, F. J. Lissington, F. W. Connoll, W. H. Tisdall (vice-presidents), and Staples and Co., for donations; to Dr. Mason (president) for his interest and personal .attendance at the meeting; to the Press for their reports, and to tho public generally. The Licensed A 7 ictuallors' Cup was presented to tho winner, Rifleman Judd, by Dr." Mason; and the Champion Gold Medaj, to Rifleman W.'H. Baliinger, by Mr. F. J. Lissington. - '
