The Takapuna Jockey Club's Spring Meeting being fixed to open on Saturday next, the committee of that .body will have first to deal with thoviiew situation created by: the provisions of the Gaming Act, and the necessary applications have, it is understood, been lodged with the authorities of the Takapuna Jockey Club by those wishing, to lay the odds nt the forthcoming -spring meeting at : the North Shore. It is expected -that a copy'of the Act,-as finally passed, will reach Auckland to-day bv mail, and when such is- to hand tho Takapuna Jockey. Club Committee may be-expected-to face the licensing question. The same writer states . the' totalisator arrangements on-'the Alanawatu Racing Club's course- .having proved equal to coping with a big; rush of business, and with a view .to Ellcrsho being brought up to the highest standard, Mr. Hartland,- secretary to . the Auckland Racing Club, has been commissioned to make special trip to Palmerston North m order to inspcct -.the machine arrangements on the Manawatu course prior t? altera, tions being made at Ellershc. Mr. Hartland leaves for New Plymouth by to-day's steamei en route to Palmorston North. Tho coming into force of the Gaming Act was effective to-night m stopping the betting which has been the subject of complaint m connection with tho Auckland Athletic Club a gaslight sports.
