MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

Tho annual meeting of the .Manawatu County Council was held at Sandon yesterday. Councillor J. G. Wilson was re-elected chairman, and ho and Councillor Kemball were appointed the Council's representatives on the I'almerston Hospital Board. Letters read at the meeting included those from the Treasury, stating that an additional loan of £50 for the construction of two bridges on tho Foilding Awahuri Road was now available; from tho Lands Department, with reference to the recent damage to tho Ohakea protective works, and stating that tho Minister had granted a further sum of £100 to ronow_ tho portion washed away; from the Justice Department, in reference to the Council's recommendation of Messrs. W. J. Phillips, G. Williams, and J. Acourt, as Justices of the Peace, and stating that the matter would receive the attention of tho Minister when the next batch of appointments was being made; from tho district engineer of the Railway Department, with the following report on tho tramway mado by tho Inspector:—"This lino has gon.o back since my last inspection. Tho surfacing and lino is not so good, and requires attention, principally through so much wot weather and floods. Tho JOIb. rails are fair, with tho exception'of two rails that require renewing. The 281b. rails have got very bad, and up to 100 rails require renewing. There has boon no relaying since my last inspection." Tho district engineer asked that tho work referred to should receive early attention. Tho Rangitikoi County Council wroto agreeing to the sjle of tho punt at Scott's Ferry. Mr. T. W. Downcs, chairman of tho Bulls High Schools Committee, and the Bulls School Committee, applied for a subsidy in aid of the building, fund of the District lligh .School at Bulls. At least £300 was required to bo raised by subscriptions and donations, fo which tho Government would pive £ for £. Tho Council decided to endorse tho resolution of tho Foilding Borough Council with reference to the holding of a conference of the local bodies interested, to consider tho question of tho erosion of tho Manawatu and Oroua rivers.
