KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL
Tho ordinary meeting of the Karori Borough Council was held last night, there being present the Mayor (Mr. A. C. Pearce) and Councillors Lissington, Spiers, Cathie, Clark, Smith, Wedde, and Murdoch.
An application from Thomas Ward, for consent to contsruct streets in section 32, formerly the property of the Bell family, was referred to the engineer.
Mr. J. .1. M'Grath, solicitor, on behalf of tho Standen Estate, wrote stating that his clients wished the Council to take over the roads in the estate at as early a date as was convenient. A cheque for ;E20"), being the amount payable to complete, necessary repairs, as well as inspection fees, was enclosed. The borough engineer, who recommended that the roads be not taken over in their present state, pointed out that the fences on the ton road had not been completed, and that the batters were not safe. He considered that the first heavy rains would bring down a lot of material on to the load. In places, the concrete channelling was not in accordance wilh the specifications. It was decided to adopt tho engineer's report. The Wellington R.F.U. intimated that it understood the Council had in view the. construction of a recreation ground, part of which —probably six playing grounds—would be in readiness for next season. The Union wished to know if the Council would rent the grounds 0 it at from JES to £li per ground for 1 lie season. Jn that event, the Union would consider the advisahlencss of playing a senior match there every Saturday, also some of the Wednesday competition matches. Tho communication was referred to the Recreation Ground Committee. Mr. F. A. Allen, secretary to the Wellington Scenery Preservation Soceity, requested the Council's- support in connection with its petition to the Wellington City Council, praying that body to urge upon the Government the desirableness (if acquiring Day's Buy Bush as a National Park. The letter was received.

' Arrangemenls would then be made to deal with tlie matter at the .earliest opportunity. The communication was referred lo the Amalgamation CoinThe Tramways and Kleclrical Kngineer lor the Wellington Ciiy Council wrote I hat it had been reported lo him that: a llolesworlh Street resident, who travelled by a late special car, had refused to pay the double fare, on the ground that he hail been unable to board the ordinary ear. It was decided to apply to the resident in question for a further explanation. Several of the councillors favoured taking legal action..
