SOCIAL REFORM WORK,

(by telegraph—press association.) Auckland, November 26. The Salvation Army is carrying on a big propaganda of social reform work in New Zealand. In addition to the inebriates' homo recently established on Boll's Island in the Hauraki Gulf, several new institutions are shortly to be opened. Mr. Findlny, of Romuera, has made a gift of one and threequarter acres as a site for tho erection of a home for destitute and orphan girls, and it is expected that a building capable of accommodating eighty girls will shortly bo established there. A home for destitute and orphan boys is also being opened in laranaki, Mr. Jenkins, of Elthani, having presented a large furnished house and ten acres of land for the purpose.

Brigadier Albiston (officer in charge of tho Salvation Army in the North Island) and Brigadier Bray (in chargo of the social work in Australasia) to-day inspected alternative sites for a Salvation Army Boys' Homo. Tho site chosen is an ideal one, being wjthiu two miles of town and commanding a magnificent viow, and has a sunny aspect. A ridgo runs up the centre ,on the top of which the home will be built. A houso and seventeen acres of land at Middlomarch, the proporty of tho late Mr. Gillic3, has been purchased by tho Salvation Army for use either as an inebriates' or boys' homo. The purchase money is under £2000, This property was formerly offered to tho Hospital Board as a sanatorium for consumptives, but tho schomo collapsed owing to local opposition,
