MEDICAL INSPECTION OF SCHOOL CHILDREN.
(BT TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL' 'CORRESPONDENTS.) Auckland, November 25. A recent telegram, from. Invercargill stated that the Southland;. Education Board had discussed a scheme with medical men for the inspection of school ■ children as formulated by the Chief Health .Officer (Dr. Mason) in July last. The local district,, health officer (Dr. J. S. Purdy) lias had'"tlie 'matter in hand for the past three months, in conjunction with Dr. Mason. Ho has been engaged in-drawing.up a.plan, so tllat'a preliminary examination can'be made of'the children in the Auckland province. Medical-and dental assistance has been volunteered. It is desired to obtain information'.in regard to mea-, suremeiit.s, height, girth.- of-., chest, and to obtain .particulars regarding .weight, hearing, sight, teeth, nose, .throat;-physical defects, etc. . Such an examination, it is. con-, sidered, -would be exceedingly useful in de-. mqnstrating the general/,physique of .the children in the Dominion, arid: also for purposes of comparison. /Medical 'assistance has also 'been promised-at the Thames.
