According to a Press Association cablegram from London, "the new Cunard liner Mauritania, | n her trip across the* Atlantic, putup a.record yesterday (November 21), traversing -m knots." the best German record—and the record til! -.the; big Cunartiers, were launched—was the Deutschfanri's 601 knots in U Hours, which Is easily eclipsed by tho Mauretania'seM,knots. A cablegram dated October 10. stated that the Cunardsr Lusltania had put up wiiat was then a 24 hours' record by steaming "617 miles" (evidently meaning knots). Th-3 present message makes N it sufficiently clear that the Mauretania has eslipsed her sister, the Germans'; and the world. The Mauretania is now on her first trans-Atlantic trip, and everyone will await its conclusion to note th? average speed. The best average speeds (trans-Atlantic)' of. the, German boats are the>3.sß knots per hour of the Kaiser Wllheim II and ths 23.51 knots of the Deutschland. .According to. a cablegram of October 11, the Lusjtania, en her sosond trip to America, averaged 24 knots. On'hsr first trip the Lusltania averaged 23.01 knots. The Mauretania's success is the mora wonderful seeinc that this is her maiden voyage.
