RAILWAY CLASSIFICATION.
Tho new schedule to tho Railway Classification Bill, which . tho , Premier introduced by Governor's Message on Friday morning, places the General Managor of Railways in a division by .himself. Tho Chief Accountant's salary is raised by £50, bringing him on a level jvith.tlie chief clerk. His maximum salary is ' now £700. In tho First Grade the salary is raised from £600, minimum, to £625; and, maximum, from £650 to- £700; Second Grade, from £575 maximum to £600. In the 10th Grade there aro-iour increments of £15 and two of £10, as against the original proposal of eight of £10. Cadets, on completion of their cadotship.'aro to start in tho'lOth Class at £135. Guards aro separated in classification from signalmen, storemen, shunters, etc., arid tho increments for first-class guards, instead of being two of 6d. per day, are to bo one of Is., and one of Gtl. per day. 'Crossing-keep-ers and bridge-keepers have their maximum salary raised from 6sl" 6d. to 7s. per day. For blacksmiths engaged on new engine work, 6d. per day in addition to schedulo rates is to be given. Tho'samo applies also to steel-moulders. Train-lifters and examiners have a maximum salary of 9s. 6d. a day, and coal-mon 9s. a day, an addition of 6d. in each case. The maximum' salary of skilled labourers is extended to 9s. a day. In explaining the schodule, the Premier said cadets would now got £200 in twolve years, instead of £180 in-fourteen years, as in tho lirst schedule.
