NOTES ON THE GRACING. . • (BY Glencoe.) ,-■ Prior to the commencement of tho Second Hurdles, The Officer gelding Bandmaster was put up for. auction, and sold to . Mr. J. Cartor, of Blenheim.; Tho Vouchor was favourite.for the Hurdles, but she never had a chance with Lcrida, who won by several 'lengths. Tho winner.- -.vas bought after tho race by Mr. D. Scott, or. Flaxbourno. Bandmaster ran poorly in this raco, and was pulled up after hitting' hurdlo in front of the stand. . i Tiwha was made a .firm • favourite* in the Highwoight Hack Handicap, : but he was slow to commence, and secured a very bad position thereby.- Ho put in a good run m the -straight,' but failed to reach Odstone. Sweethill was' scratched for tho Omaka Hack, leaving three starters., . Lawn Rose was tho least fancied of tho trio, and until a furlong'from homo.appeared, to have no chance, but here Murfitt; brought her along with a rush, and she won 1 by half a length.
Bclario appeared to have...Compass beaten at every stage. , • .
Moata and Compass wore the defections from the Kivcrlands Handicap. .Trent, who ran well for a mile on the first day, proved the genuine nature of his form by going to the front and running the journey in the last time of'lmin. 43 l-sscc. Mahoe began-badly, and thongh he 'moved up at half-way ho was soon done, and finished last. Lyrist ran an honest race, but is apparently not able .to carry a 9-st. burden.. Naumai looked very-soro when doing his preliminary for tho Scurry Hack, amino was not well banked by the public .on that account. Conqueror's stock all seem to bo good sprinters', and Naumai is no exception. Tho gelding began well, and gained several lengths on tho favourite at the bend. St. Flora and Surmount got the worst of .tho start, and never got near tho leaders. Tho bav colt First Mate ran fairly well, but everything behind Wharckura was outclassed. All the acceptors went to. tho post in tho Railway Hack. Miss Vera ran well for six furlongs. She looked'a trifle on the light side on Thursday, and may not be in the best trim just now, but -she should work herself out of the hack division.
Belario ran a nice race at his.third attempt on' the track. He did not get a famous start, and half-way up the straight ap-' pearcd to he rather severely, bumped,_ butPrice was equal.to the occasion, and, riding vigorously with hands and heels, he negotiated his mount through what appeared'to be an awkward position. Lawn Roso is not a good beginner, but,B. milo.course seems to suit her. Truthful is evidently not himself. He galloped very wido in thoßailway Hack, and gave Lawn Rose a clear run on the rails. Bolario's record at the meeting was. two seconds arid a first'. Jivcryone was pleased with Mr. J. Bull's success, as the public recognise "that'.his horses are; always ridden right out. ; . _.-, '.. .That good second day horse Moata triads a hollow l show of the opposition in the 'iele..graph Handicap. The Daunt gelding was'. bettor suited by the extra furlong''on'thai' second day,,and was in pretty light.■■■' : ■■ iTrent put up a 71b; penalty in th eTole-- ■ graph Handicap, but could get no nearer than third: .'.-.,' ■;. :■ .;• •.; . Wind looked a trill* better than on the previous day. but the big son of'Sou'-Westel ran a lot worse. ..■'.■■•." TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB'S MEETING. (BY TEI-EGRAPH—PEES3 ASSOCIATION.). \.
