In the past century the Ward of Cripnlegato, one of the largest and most Ingiily rated wards of the City of London, has possessed" only three aldermen, a romarkable instance of tho longevity of the City Fathers. Sir .Matthew Wood, after whoso daughter the famous City barge Maria Wood was named, held office from 1807 to 1843; Thomas Cliallis served from tho latter year to 1874; and his successor was tho present alilerman, Sir Henry Knight, tho second member of tho Court of Aldermen in point of seniority. -,
