THE LATE TE WHITI.
(DV TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) New Plymouth, November 20. Tho "Taranaki Herald's" representative at Parihaka telegraphs that a mass meeting of Natives discussed for several hours the question of tho future of tho sottleinont. The general opinion seemed to bo in favour of Charlie Waitara, To Whiti's son-in-law, being placed at the head of affairs in preference to Willio To Whiti, the prophet's son. Waitara, who Ls said to liavo a private income of £•5000 a vcai', has lone had virtual control of Parihaka. Eventually it was decided that he he asked to continuo as head man of tho settlement. Willie Te Whiti, who' is the roal owner, miglit causo trouble by evicting the inhabitants. This is, however, considered very unlikely. , The Natives continuo to arrivo for the Ungi. "King" Mahuta was invited, but no reply bus yet been received. Preparation? are being made for n funeral in tho old Maori custom, which will provido a spectacle eclipsing anything of the kind yot seen, or over likely to be soon again, ft will probably take place early on Kriilaj morning. Thorc is no "sign of liquor in tho settlement. To Whitites and Tohnites nro freely mixing; with one another, having sunk their differences.
