The Wellington Boxing Association's final tourney of the season is attracting a considerable amount of attention, and tho appearance of tho box plan is an. indication that the Opera House will bo crowded on Monday evening next. According to letters received from Sydney, the Hanley y. Godfrey contest is causing much interest iii boxing circles in that city. New Zealanders, who have soon Godfrey in the ring, pin their faith to the Englishman. The friends of Hanley, however, are confident of this brilliant little boxer getting the verdict. His Excellency Lord Plunket lias intimated his intention of being present to witness tho contests on Monday night, if in Wellington on that date. It is expected that tho Ministry will also be. represented. The arrangements for the tourney aro well forward A Wellington resident, who has been holidayniaking ill Sydney, draws a comparison between the conduct of Sydney aiyl Wellington boxing audiences, to tho disadvantage of the former. The first tournament of the" Marlborouch Boxing Association concluded successfully- last night. Thu match, of SOsovs. between 'Baird (Nelson) ami Steele (Blenheim) resulted in a win for Biiini in the fifth round after nn unequal contest. Other classes resulted :—lleavTweight, Allan Thompson, Blenheim; bantam E. Bartlott, Blenheim; feather-weight, A Wanden, Blenheim; light-weight, J. Hunter Nelson; middle-weight, A. Thompson. Mr.' T Tracy, who reforced in the match, gavo* an exhibition of boxing.
