SWIMMING.

MEETING OF SWIFTS CLUB. Mr. J. Fleming presided at a special meeting of the Swifts Swimming Club held at Searle's Cafe last evening, the principal business boing the election of officers to fill certain vacancies that had occurred since the last annual meeting. Mr. W. T. Churchward resigned from the positions of captain, delegate to the Wellington Centre, and handicapper, and his place as captain and handicapper was filled by the election of Mr. F. Wilton. Mr. A. Stevenson was elected delegate to the Centre. Mr. Skcpg resigned the secretaryship, and the matter of filling tlio position was left to the Committee. The committeemen who had retired were Messrs. Aston, Girdlestone, Churchward, and Skegg, whose places were filled by the appointment of Messrs; C. Fordham, E. S.Forne, W. T. Wilmott, and W. Skcgg. The following new members were elected: —Messrs; Gibbons, Johnston, T. J.' King, H. Marshall, C. Reid, and G. Flinman.

During the meeting opportunity was taken of saying good-bye to Mr. Churchward, who is about to leave Wellington to practice the law in Blenheim. In referring to the departing officer, Mr. Fleming'said that for the last nine years none had been more closely associated with swimming, and it was due to his efforts tnat the Swifts Club was formed, a club. he had captained for the last nine years.' He had filled evory position in the Club, and had made the sport his hobby, giving up every other sport for swimming. Messrs. C. Ludwig and T. Shields also paid a high compliment to Mr. Churchward. Mr. Colin M'Donald spoke in complimentary] terms on behalf of the ThornUon Amateur Swimming Club, and Mr. Hannah spoke for the Y.M.C.A. Club. On the conclusion of the speeches the Chairman handed to Mr. Churchward an artistic watercolour sketch by the late Mr. Jas. M'Nairn and a handsome copper-faced clock, with the best wishes for his future prosperity. Mr. Churchward, in thanking those present for tho kind things they had said about him, gave an interesting outline of tho history of the Swifts Club, and a lot of good advice to swimming clubs and swimmers.
