FIRES.
OUTBREAK AT KARANGAHAKE. . FOUR SHOPS DESTROYED. (bt telegraph—press association.) Auckland, November 18. A fire at Karangahake, near Waihi, destroyed four shops, a stable and a buggy shed used by Robertson and Co., grocers, as a temporary store-room and stable. Tho fire' spread to a billiard-room tenanted by E. Hawken, and to premises recently opened as the agency of tho National Bank here. The brigade arrested tho blazo, saving tho rest of tho block of wooden shops. x Robertson and Co. estimate their loss at about £90. Tho billiard table and furniture destroyed in tho saloon wero covered by insurance in the London and Lancashire. Tho stable, billiard-room, and bank premises were owned by Georgo Crosby, of Paero.i, and wero insured in tile National office. Two of the shops destroyed wore owned by J. Davies, of Thames, and are believed to have been insured.
DISASTROUS FIRE AT TAKAPAU.
Napier, November 18. A firo at Tnkapau yesterday destroyed Lake's Hotel, Noifson's cycle shop, the Bank of Now Zonland, and Hanson's drapery store. There was no water supply. The insurances were: Hotel and bank premises (owned by the Napier Brewery Company) £1750 in tho Norwich Union office, and £750 in the Australian Alliance; contents of hotel, £GOO, and of bank, £100—both in the Norwich Union; cycle and drapery shops, £250 in New Zealand Insurance Company' Hansen's stock £55(1 in the Norwich Union.' '
