MASTERTON A. & P. ASSOCIATION.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the general committee of the Mastcrton A. and P. Association was held in Mastorton on Saturday afternoon. The President, Mr. J. D. Cruickshank, occupied the chair, and there was an attendance of about twenty-five members. Ap'ologies for absence were received from Messrs. A. G. Pilmer, W. H. Buick, and T. P. Lett. Preliminary arrangements were made in connection with tho forthcoming show in February. JUDGES. In connection with the appointment of judges for light horses, Mr. W. D. Watson thought it advisable to obtain the services of ; men who -were comparative strangers to the district. Men were wanted who did not know tho animals too well. The committee resolved to act upon Mr. Watson's suggestion. In the horse and cattle classes, a largo levy was made upon prominent South Island oxperts, with a sprinkling from the provinces in tho North Island. In connection with the appointment of judges for fat sheep, Mr. W. Perry explained that it was advisable to obtain tho services of the most capable men in tho Dominion. It appeared to him that the Association should, follow on the lines which obtained at the Christchurch moat freezing works, and that,i therefore, Christchurch men might be appointed. The committee acted accordingly. Judges were also appointed for the remaining sections, subject to their acceptance. Tho question of conferring passes upon visitors who desire to pass in or outside tho show gates, or of branding them as was done last year, was left to the finance and ground committee. The branding process, was received with such disfavour at the last show that it is unlikely that it will be continued next year. , FINANCE. The Financial Committee presented its report. Tho statement showed a debit balance of £701 17s. 4d. Accounts amounting- to £61 19s. lid. passed for payment. It was decided to arrange for a propor supply, of. water in the new portion of tho show grounds, and also to'inquire into v the amount of covered spaco required. Tho tender of Mr. J. J. Shout, of Wellington, was accepted as caterer for the Association for a term of three years. It was decided to adopt Mr. W. Kemp's suggestion that in tho horticultural classes all exhibits should bo compulsorily named, and that when a gardener is an employee, his name should bo added to the show cards. A strong canvassing committee was appointed. Those members - who are to wait upon Wellington firms are: Messrs. J. D. Cruickshank, G. Summercll, D. Casolberg, J. 13. Moodie, I. and G. Sykes, and A.
