The Hon. Kathleen Plunket gave a small dance at Government Houso last night. The floral decorations were of guelder roses and rhododendrons. Miss Plunkot wore a frock of green, chiffon over whito silk; Miss Boyle, white tulle; Miss Barker, white net over white silk; Miss Kettle, white chiffon; Mrs. Arifhur Pearoo, whito striped silk; Miss Mary Pearco, pale blue taffetas; Mrs. Buchanan, pale blue satin; Mrs. C. Crawford, black tulle; Mrs. Dymock, white silk; Miss, Harcourt, pale pink silk; Miss Grace Harcourt, pale blue; Miss Cooper, • white laco; Mrs. A. Duncan, whito frock with silver trimmings; Miss Duncan, pale pink; tho two Misses Simpson were in white; Miss Tweed, pale blue, Miss Una Williams, pale bine satin. .

While- lamenting the fact that men neglect both the Shakespeare Club and the public performances it gives, the President, Mr. Joy'ntj might have paid a tribute to the interest shown by the ladies who turned out well on Thursday'night to hear the Club's rendering of "Julius Caesar." Nearly all the lady members of tho clubhand ex-members, wore present with their frionds, and though hers was not a chief part, it was a lady who carried off the honours of tho evening. The gallery was half filled with pupils from the various girls' schools. • Mr. and Mrs. Russell Grace passed through Wellington in tho middle--of the week, staying only one day in town on their way to their home. Mr. and Mrs. Algar Williams arrived in Wellington on Friday morning. Yesterday afternoon Mrs. D. Robertson had an "at home " at her house in Talavera Terraco, which was attended by a large number of guests. Her pretty rooms were decorated with a charming variety of summer flowers. Mrs Robertson received her guests in a striped black and white silk strapped with bands of black silk, and worn with a blouse of tucked cream net. Lady Stout wore a cream Sicilian coat and skirt with lace vest, feather boa, and black picture hat; Mrs. Hislop, black frock with heliotrope toque and scarr; Mrs. Ward, violet chiffon taffetas, with' cream blouse and cream lace scarf; Miss Turner, Mack and white striped silk, - and' hat with purple roses; Mrs. Maclaurin, green silk; Mrs. Stott, floral silk with cream laco blouse; Mrs. Finch, brown costume with brown hat; Mrs. Duthio, striped grey silk with cream lace and strappings of embroidered; lace, floral hat; Mrs. llaics, navy blue chiffon taffetas, with bands of embroidery,. .Mrs. ■ Samuel, blue cloth with slashed sleeves and cream blouse, feather boa. Among the other guests were Mesdames Firth,. Beauchamp, Salmond, Macarthy, Tringham, Knox, Perkins, Dean, Hassell, ■ Richardson, Chatsfield, and Tewsloy, and Misses Dean, Perkins, Cooper, Morris, Riloy, and Beau'chanip. ' During: the afternoon Miss Morris played several selections on tho violin, and Miss Cooper, sang. A number of the old Convent pupils gave an' afternoon tea yesterday to the Rev. Mother Superior at.the Island Bay Convent.

Mrs. Buchanan's friends'are giving various farewell entertainments for her, and yesterday Miss Fell gave an afternoon tea at her home in Hobson Street.' ' / Mrs. A. do B. Brandon and Miss Deans left yesterday morning for a visit, to Rotorua, where Mr. Brandon means to spend somo timo fishing. . ' Mr. and Miss Percy returned to Sydney by the Maheno yesterday afternoon. By the same boat Mrs. Walter Johnston and her daughter, Mrs,. Baldwin, left;for a trip to Sydney. "'.•" "; ; . • .. Agnes Bennett, returned to Sydney yesterday, and Jliss Campbell, sister of Mrs. Turnbull, of Mangaweka, left for-a short visit to Australia on , her way to Scotland.

The dramatic committee of the Lady Plunket centre of the Girls' Realm Guild; has decided to, givo two performances. The first will bo a matinee at. the Sydney Street schoolroom on , Thursday, jNoveinber'2l, and the second an evening performance on tho following day in thn samo place. The Hon. ■Kathleen Plunkct is getting up a little farce entitled " Freezing a 'Mother-in-Law," in which sho herself, will appear as the mother-in-law, and Miss Olive Gore will take the other • lady's part. Mr. Waterfiqld, Dr. Arnold Izard, and Mr. Charles Gore, will also take part. The actors in the second play, ."A Pair of Lunatics," are Miss Elsie Watson and Mr. Ellice Mills.. These will bo prefaced by a- curtain-raiser, "Shattered Ner.ves,"_in which' Miss Rita Simpson, and Miss Elsie Simpson will play. Those last two plays aro being produced under the direction of Miss Harding Malby.
