PUBLIC SERVICE SUPERANNUATION.

AMENDMENT IN SELECT COMMITTEE. Tho l J ublio Serviqe Superannuation Bill was reported yesterday from the Public Accounts Committee with certain amendments. Permanent Militia arc made to come under tho terms of the Bill, but no other branch of the Defence Force. Clause 18 is amended by altering tho ago at which a male contributor may retire from GO to 65 years, and of 'a female contributor from 50 to 65 years. Tho following proviso in tho same clause is substituted for the ono in tho Bill: —" Provided that the Minister in charge of the Department in which a contributor is employed may extend the provisions of this section to any caso in which tho ago of a malo contributor is not less' than..sixty years oi 1 tho age of a female contributor is not less than fifty years." Sorvice in the Provincial Government is not to bo takon as sorvice under tho Government. Clause 29, which prescribes that the widow and children of a contributor who dies wliilo in tho public service shall not be entitled to a gratuity, is deleted. In regard to the annual Governmont contribution of £20.000, tho following is added and Clause 31 deleted: —" Together with such further amount (if any) as is deemed by the Governor-in-Council, in accordance with tho aforesaid report of tho Actuary, to bo required to meet the charges on tho fund during the ensuing year." A statement of all additional amounts so paid into the fund is to he laid before Parliament within ten days. The Committee recommend that the Bill as amended bo procooded with.
