Turton, LL.B., has been ap< pointed a warden under tho Mining Act. The appointment of Mr. Andrew M'Kcnzie as an Inspector of Machinery is gazetted. , Mr. James Doyle, Chief Inspector for the Wellington Corporation, roturned yesterday, from a holiday visit spent in Australia. Rifleman Masefield, of the New Zealand Representative Rifle Team, returned from Sydney by tho Warrimoo yesterday. Mr. and Rrs. Balcombe Brown and Mr. and Mrs. A. Wylio are passengers by the Tongariro duo hero from London next week. Messrs. J. W. Bridge and A..M'Kce, who havo been visiting the Old Country, returned I to Wellington by the Warrimoo yesterday. Colonel Davies, of tho Defence Council, and Lieutenant Chesney are duo from the South this morning by tho Mararoa. Dr. J. M. 8011, Director of tho Geological Survey, who is visiting England and tho Continent, is expected to return to Wellington soon after' Christmas. Mr. F. Penty, of the firm of Penty and Blake, arrived in Fremavitle from England on November 8. Ho is expected to arrive in Wellington on Wednesday week. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Kennedy and the Misses Konnedy, of Wellington, arrived at Frcmantle yesterday on their return fronr an English and Continental tour. Mr. W. Dinnie, Commissioner of Police, who broke his leg recently by an accident on the bowling greon, is making very satisfactory progress towards recovery. Captain Richardson, Director of Artillery, has gone to Dunedin to supervise the annual training camps of tho Dunedin Naval , Artillery Volunteers. . Mr. John Roberts, C.M.G., who is returning from a trip to Honolulu taken for his health's sake, is a passenger by tho Mokoia, which vessel is duo here from Sydney via Auckland to-morrow. • Messrs. A. Veiteh, W. M. Muir, and Jas. Russell, of tho Wellington Bowling Club, left on a visit to Auckland and Rotorua yesterday , morning. Mr. and Mrs. Owen M'Ardle, of Wellington, who havo bcou on a trip to Europe, roturned via America and Sydney, and reached Wellington by tho Warrimoo yesterday, During their eight months' tour they havo. travelled in England, Ireland, the Continent, and America.
