The Opawa, of the New Zealand Shipping Company fleet, is to leave Auckland on Friday, and is due here on Sunday. The Union Company advise that the Te u.nau has been delayed in the south, and will not arrive until Wednesday, instead of Mondayi (time-table date). v Tho "Sydney Shipping List" reports that the steamer Aeon, 4221 tons, Downie, left San Francisco on October 2G, for Sydney and Now Zealand ports. /The Federal-Houlder Shire liner Cornwall, which arrived at Sydney yesterday, is to leavo for .Auckland to-morrow, and is due hero on November 28. The vessel has 5111 tons of .cargo for New Zealand, ISO 9 tons being consigned to Wellington. The Shaw, Savill steamer Mamari, which sailed for Lyttolton yesterday to complete her discharge, is to go on to Timaru, and back to '.Lyttolton; thence to Napier and Gisborno, for homeward loading. She is duo back here about November 29, and will complete loading here, sailing for London on December 3. Several vacancies for seaman and stokers haying occurred in the H.M.S. Pioneer, which is to .visit Lytteiton shortly, the commander has decided to advertise for suitable hands. The usual qualifications, such as being able to read and write, are necessary, and three years' residence in Australasia is essential. The steamer Aberlour, 4194 tons, has been chartered.to load at New York, in December, for. New Zealand ports. The Indramayo, 5200 tons,' Williams, which left New York" on September 12, for Australian ports, ..is under charter to load from New Zealand, either for the Continent or United Kingdom. Tho Union Comnany announce that a special excursion trip will bo run to Picton on November 21, to enable visitors from Wellington to attend the Marlborough races. The Arahura will leave Wellington at 7 a.m., and will sail from Picton on the return trip the same evening. The return fare has been fixed at 15s. saloon, and 10s.. steerage. Tho extent of the electrical installations on tjie new Cunard liners. will surprise readers who do not know the many different uses to which electricity is now put oh board ship. The main generating plant on the Maurctania consists of four turbo-generating sets supplying continuous-current at 115 volts. Each set has a normal capacity of 375 kilowatts, or a total i)'f about 2300 horse-power. This power is .'used not only for lighting, of which there is a very complete installation, but also for driving fans for producing the forced draught at the boilers (about 000 horse-power alone being renhiired for this purpose), for ventilation, for driving lifting tackle and working .the ship's passenger and freight elevators, for driving refrigerating machinery, and many other services.
