CADET CAMPS.
DEPARTMENTAL ASSISTANCE OFFERED! It is still apparently a debatable matter whether the holding of annual camps is a good feature in the training of Volunteers. In the case of school cadets it is generally conceded that the camp-training undergone by tne State . school cadets at Oliristchurch during the year 190&-7 was really helpful to tho boys, and there is already more than talk of holding battalion camps (''.lring the summer motiths. The Education Department-has been soundod in regard to tho length it is prepared to go in assisting these camps, and the following circular has been received by tho ebcretiiry of tho : Wellington Education Board: —••■'■ "On the following, terms tho Department is prepared to grant assistance in tho holding of local battalion camps:— (a) Train fares for' a distance not oxceoding .20 miles. (b) Allowance of 3s. Gd. per head for seven •"■ days' camp.' ' (c) Camp equipment as far aa possible. (d) Damago to camp equipment to bo made good by tho battalion using it. (ej Not less than 200 of all. ranks to be in onnip. , (f) An ndoquato number of experienced offi« cers to bo in charge (g)'Wherever practicable an instructor of tho Defence Offioo will bo attached to the camp for instructional purposes. ■.■:.;■.. , "E. 0.
