Presbyterian Missionary Union. An I 'interesting gathoring in connection with 'the Presbyterian Assembly has been the ahmial conference of tho Presbytorian Women's Missionary. Union. In tho past tho Union; has devoted its'energies to foreign mission .work, but now,, at tho .request of' tho General Assembly, it has decided to include home 'mission Work also within tho scopo of its operations. \ A good number of-delegate's. attended the meetings of the conference, Mrs. Shiror,, president of tho. Union, presiding, and Mrs.. Shemold, of Palmerston Nortli, acting as:lion, secretary. Miss Reid is staying at'Palmerston at Mr. ■Walter:-Strang's- during the absence, ohMr.and'Mrs. Strang in Australia. Miss M.: Simpson and Miss Miles:,-aro> visitiiig her. '. „■ ■ .-■■■ •" .. ~ . Mr. Algar Williams, who has taken Professor: Rankine-Brown's house in Aurora' Tor-: race for six months, intends to build in Hobson' Crescent. Miss Russell, from- Palmerston .North, is stayirigat : the'Empire;Hotel. ■; Mrs."! \y.; J. Stratton,.; of .'Hastings, is "in • Wellington , 011. a holiday visit. * * . Mrs.'.'E. Colville,"of Dunedin, recently sent a copy of her songs and poems to Quebn.Alex-: andra,' and she has ..received';this reply :h-, " Miss'Knollys has received the Qucen's com : mauds to -thank Mrs. Colville- hiost..sincerely, for the., book of poems shehas been so kind to'send'for her. Majesty's acceptance." This is the third occasion on which-Mrs. Colville has: received Royal acknowledgment of her poetry.
