(Before Mr.' W. G. Riddell,-S.il.) POLICE CASES. . ; . Nine first offending inebriates 1 were called upon yesterday morning to answer for their respective lapses from the path of sobriety. Two-were - convicted.and fined 10s., in-defautt 48 hours' imprisonment; one waß ranvicfod and fined 10s., in default 24 hours' imprisohmont; one 55., in default 48 hours' imprison* ment; one 5a., in default >24 hours' imprisonment; and three were convicted ana diacharged. - , , . . Charles Connor was convicted • and fropd 205., in default 7 days' imprisonment with hard ■labour,'for drunkenness, and for similar offences. Margaret-Webb and Clara. A%ar were, convicted and fined ss.,'in default '24 hours' imprisonment;. and ;Thomas RusSell was convicted and fined 10s., in default hours' imprisonment.' • RESISTING. A CONSTABLE. Ernest M'Quillan came forward in answsf to a charge of having resisted Constab'a Shaw whilst in the execution of. his duty. It was stated by tho that accused interfered -with the constable, who was arresting a mail for drunkenness in Cuba .'Street\ cii Saturday niglit. His. Worship entered a-con-viction and fine'of £3,-in'default 7 dava' imprisonment. • " NO MEANS. Frederick Lyness appeared, on a charge of drunkenness, and ■ was convicted . and fined 10s., in default 48 hours' imprisonment. SubInspector O'Donovan stated .that accused wiu before the Court last week- oil a charge of having insufficient lawful means of support, and was convicted and ordered to come-up for sentence when called upon,- on condition that lie went into the Ohiro Homo. -He had gone into «ie Home, .but had-since left the institution. Defendant asked for- another chance,,'and-offered to take out.a prohibition order against himself. His Worship was ; not prepared to extend anv further leniency,-and sentenced accused to three months' ' imprisonment with hard labour. DAMAGING' A TRAMGAR. ' - James Miller, the principal in a' brawl at Miramar on Saturday night, pleaded guilty to having damaged two panes of glass in. a tramcar. A plea .of-not guilty was. entered to charges .of having assaulted John, Booth and Charles M'lntyre. " Accused' was remanded ~for, sentence until Friday on- the first charge, and the hearing of ■ the: two ■other, informations .was adjourned .until, Friday. Bail was allowed in each case-in £50 and one surety of £50;
