Mr. Okoy asKed tho Minister for Labour if he would bring down legislation this session to amend the Factories Act in the direction of allowing tho occupiers of factories in tho smaller boroughs in the Dominion the right of giving their employees their weekly half-holiday on tho day appointed by tho local authorities under the Shops and Offices Act? Tho Hon. J. A. Millar said tho proposed Factories Act amendment provided that where, in any borough having a population of less than fivo thousand, a factory and shop wore combined under tho .management of tho sanio occupier, tho half-holiday for both factory and shop could bo observed on tho day appointed for tho statutory half-holiday under tho Shops and Offices Act; ,1904. Tho Government did not propose to make any further amendment in tho Bill now being introduced.
Tho Extension of Commerce Committco, to which tho Flour and Other Products Monopoly Prevention. Bill was referred, recommend thac for the purpose of-that Act a representative of Agricultural and Pastoral Associations should bo added to tho Arbitration Court whenever an inquiry was necessary. Tho representative should bo recommonded by a majority of tho societies. If the societies failed to make any recommendation, tho Governor may appoint any person lie thinks fit.
